I've always favored quartets (and went there to hear the LeFevre Qt. - sorry), but I was especially blessed by your music. And your CD, especially the song "Weep," has blessed me over an over. Hello Kelly, Family & Friends,
This is just an invitation. But first I'll tell you a little about me.
My name is Pastor C. Lionel Gruver and I now live in Phoenix, Arizona with my wife Donna R. (Huber) Gruver. We have been with each other since she was 12 and I was 15. I was born to Rev. C. L. Gruver and Suzanne M. (Yinger) Gruver in Alton, Illinois on April 28th, 1958.
My father was from East Texas and my mother from Detroit, Michigan. They met in Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. Dad pastored a few A/G churches from Ohio, Indiana and finally was at Spring Street A/G in Alton, Illinois. I have a sister who is 12 years older than me by the name of Marlene Colston. My brother is 10 years older and his name is Robert. Marlene and her husband, Marvin, now live in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia. My brother now lives in Albemarle, North Carolina with his wife, Charlene. They both have two children and grandchildren too.
Donna and I walked down the aisle first at my sister's wedding when she was 5 and I was 8. Then when I was 6 years old dad moved to Metropolis, Illinois and we were there for a couple years before he left the A/G denomination and went independent and started Calvary Temple at 713 Washington Avenue back in Alton. My mother had been his organist and my sister was and is still quite a soloist.
When Bob graduated from High School he received a full scholarship to the University of Iowa for his football abilities. He was quite an athlete. There he met Charlene his wife and they went on into the Air Force and he flew the Phantom F4 and then retired. Now he pastors in North Carolina and they have 2 children and grandchildren. Now Marlene's husband is Marvin and he also is retired from the Air Force but he worked in the missles. They have 2 children and just had their second grandchild this past May.
Now when I was 5, I started taking organ lessons and by the time I was 12 I became the church organist. I ended up with a Hammond C3 with 2 Leslies and a synthezier on top of that. We also had a ebony Grand Piano on the other side of the platform. Next to the Leslie on the organ side were our drums. We also had a couple electric guitars and a bass player besides tambourines galore and a sax and trumpet in the church.
When I was 15 and in summer break I began traveling with Evangelist Maurice Hart as his organist. I sang and played for him when I wasn't in school. When I graduated high school I went to Chicago and attended "Worsham College of Mortuary Science". I came back in two years and became the embalmer/funeral director for Marks Mortuary in Wood River, Illinois. I was also a deputy coroner. Plus I got married to Donna too. We went on to have three children, two sons and a daughter.
Then in 1991 my father died from a coronary and I decided to leave the funeral business and became the pastor of our church. All was great until 2011 when in April while my wife was gone down to Meramec Caverns in Missouri and my son Nick was working in Phoenix, and my daughter was in college in Florida. My oldest son was working and I was at K-Mart drive-up pharmacy in my van and they went to get my prescriptions. I had a coronary and when they came back I was slumped over the wheel and they called the emergency 911 number and came outside to help. But by the time they could get me out and shock me nine times, 11 minutes had passed! I was dead for 11 minutes! I also spent the next 2 months in the hospital because it effected my mind.
We ended up selling the church and eventually we moved out here to Phoenix too. Now I have an electric scooter and I'm getting better every day! My children are all successful! And this past Thanksgiving I was down in Kentucky at my daughter's and I went to see an old evangelist that I used to have at my church so I could pray for him. He began to give a message in Tongues and I knew what he was saying! I even went back to Alton and attended the church where most of my congregation now attends and shared it with them.
It went like this. "The 2nd Coming of Christ, the one spoke about in 2nd Peter 3:10, will be in less than a handful of years." People were saved and shouting all over. The thing is that now it is less than 4 years and it's not on December 31st either!
I've already asked Brian Lester who is a childhood friend of mine to help me host this particular service and of course he said anything I wanted he would do. I've even asked Janet Paschal and she said she would be there too. There are others besides that. I'll just name a few more, Angelina Primm, and Lillie Knaulls too. I would appreciate it if you would come and help us too. I'm not sure where it will be yet but I know when it will be! Probably is a stadium or somewhere like that. Plus I know it will be in December.
